Individualized Skill Development
Hands-on coaching in daily living skills: cooking, budgeting, transportation, communication, and more.
Individualized Skill Development (ISD) teaches the daily living skills a person needs to be more independent at home and in the community. Coaching happens in real settings at the individual's pace, not in a classroom, so skills carry over to everyday life.
The focus depends on the person's goals. Common areas include cooking and meal planning, managing money and a household budget, using public transportation, communication and self-advocacy, personal organization, and managing appointments and routines.
The goal of ISD is to help people do more for themselves rather than to do things for them. Each plan targets the specific skills that will make the largest difference in a person's daily independence.
Who this service is for
Adults with developmental disabilities who want to build practical skills such as cooking, budgeting, transportation, and communication so they can do more on their own at home and in the community.
Eligibility
ISD is provided through Missouri's Medicaid HCBS waivers, administered by the Department of Mental Health, Division of Developmental Disabilities. It requires a Division of DD eligibility determination, MO HealthNet (Medicaid) eligibility, and a support coordinator. If you already have a support coordinator, we can start there. If you do not, we can explain the steps.
